In late 2007 the band met with Martin Shearing. It was a chance happening and just as Hollow Earth began to experience some difficulty with creating the right noises for their gigs. In the days of Pete Smith playing Bass for the band, he also had the unenviable task of setting up and tweeking the sound system during the performance. Not an ideal situation for anyone to be in and although things were fairly ok, Pete wasn't happy. It wasn't until the old PA system began to peter out (forgive the pun) that the band called upon Martin to check it over.

Things soon started to turn towards Martin being asked to stay and not just be 'the repair man'. His offer of doing a gig for the band with a real PA set up was gladly welcomed. The next gig with Martin and partner Julie running things out front was definitely a turning point for Hollow. Floyd's 'Crazy Diamond' at last had the enormous rumbling at the start as the sub woofers slowly drained their energy across the floor. Kym's vocals were clear and audible and not just lost in the mix. Paul and Stewarts lead breaks just soared over the audience and finally the drums were kicking hard as the bass guitar was felt, rather than heard. The band just cannot imagine a gig without MJPA Hire now and Martin has become that all important sixth member of the band.
